Key Feature: A very special New Zealand Wool Historical blanket.
This is an early Kaiapoi Woollen Mills wool car rug. Blanket of these type were produced late 1800-Early 1900's putting this blanket as passing its century mark.
These Car Rugs are heavy, there was no scrimping on materials when making a quality product. This blanket weighs over 1.4kg!
Blankets of type were made of very fine wool, spun into fine yarn and then woven tightly making it a dense firm durable blanket. The surface is completely smooth with no prickle factor at all.
Woven with a double weave technique, it is effectively two blankets that are woven together as one. One in solid colour for the reverse and one in pattern for the front. This makes the blanket extra thick, approx 3mm. I am in awe of this process!
Slightly smaller than average Travel rug size at 114cm x 140cm.
Patterned side is cool taupe, cream and medium taupe check pattern with a light red and mid blue detail. The reverse side is solid taupe.
Tassels top and bottom edges.
The star of this rug is the wonderful Maori Chief Kaiapoi label. There is wonderful detail in this label. Please note this label has wear damage.
This collectors blanket is priced well as at some point it has been washed incorrectly - it has some wavying/shrinkage. Label is showing some wear and there is some surface flaws. Still a prized possession!
Sorry this blanket is not available for international delivery.
