Key Feature: Light weight New Zealand Wool Historical blanket in beautiful blues.
This is a gorgeous light weight Kaiapoi Woollen Mills Maori Chief label Travel Rug.
It is quite unique as I believe it to be a re-issue of the earlier 1900's car rugs only in a light wool throw style.
Completely 100% wool it is a smooth to touch fine wool. Classic tartan design of dark navy, medium blue, light grey and a light accent of lemon. The wonderful colours make this blanket quite stunning and a very unique colour way for this blanket.
Wool is light in weight and lovely smooth even thickness.
This blanket is larger travel rug/throw size at 144cm x 186cm.
Tassels top and bottom edges.
The star of this rug is the wonderful Maori Chief Kaiapoi label.
There is fabulous detail in this label showing the Maori Chief with a full Tā moko, pounamu Hei tiki, kahu huruhuru around his shoulders, two Huia feathers in his hair a red feather/bone earring all showing rangatira.
It measures 75mm x 65mm. Label is woven and just starting to show some light surface wear.
This blanket has had a number of small repairs (see photos). The largest repair is around 70mm in length. A smaller one around 50mm. Then a handful of tiny less than 4mm repairs. They are darning repairs in co-ordinating colours. They do show due to the smoothness of the wool.
A beautiful Kaiapoi Woollen Mills collectors blanket. Ideal for display or to use and enjoy.
